Top 5 facial skin care mistakes and tips on how to take care of your skin properly

Top 5 facial skin care mistakes and tips on how to take care of your skin properly
Proper facial skin care is the key to its health, radiance and youthfulness. However, even the best products won't have the desired effect if you make mistakes in your daily routine. Here are 5 of the most common blunders that can undo all your efforts.

1. Irregular or improper cleansing of the skin

Many people think that washing their face once a day - in the morning - is enough. In fact, evening cleansing is much more important: during the day, the skin accumulates dust, excess sebum, make-up and environmental pollutants. Leaving it all on your face can cause inflammation, clogged pores and a dull complexion.

What to do: cleanse your skin twice a day. In the evening, use a two-step cleanser - first with hydrophilic oil or micellar water, then with a foam or gel according to your skin type.

2. Refuse to moisturise oily and problem skin

There is a myth: if your skin is oily, it doesn't need to be moisturised. In fact, lack of moisture can lead to even more sebum production, dryness and inflammation. Oily skin needs protection and balance, too.

What to do: use light, non-comedogenic moisturisers with hyaluronic acid, panthenol or niacinamide. They won't overload the skin, but will provide the right level of moisturisation.

3. Choosing the wrong cosmetics

Often we are guided by beautiful packaging, advice from bloggers or friends, rather than the needs of our skin. The result is irritations, flakiness, rashes or, on the contrary, the effect of ‘overfeeding’.

What to do: determine your skin type and its current needs (dehydration, pigmentation, sensitivity, etc.). Choose care individually, preferably after consultation with a cosmetologist or dermatologist.

4. Ignoring sunscreens

Even in cloudy weather and in the cold season, the skin needs protection from UV rays. Without SPF, care is incomplete: photo-aging, age spots and even the risk of serious diseases are all consequences of a lack of protection.

What to do: apply sunscreen every day, even if you don't plan to be in the sun for long periods of time. Look for products with an SPF of 30 or higher, and 50 or higher in summer.

5. Frequent facial rubbing and touching with hands

Hands are one of the main carriers of bacteria. We often touch our face by machine: propping up our chin, scratching our cheek or wiping glitter off our nose. This provokes inflammation and premature skin ageing.

What to do: try to minimise touching your face with your hands and always use a clean towel to blot rather than rub your skin.

Proper grooming is not only about choosing quality products, but also about having a smart approach to your routine. By avoiding these five mistakes, you'll significantly improve your skin and get the most out of your beauty products. And most importantly, you'll start to understand your skin and hear its true needs.
