5 Mistakes of a Beginner Eyelash Extension Artist: How to Avoid Them and Become a Professional
When mastering a new eyelash extension technique, small mistakes are inevitable — and that's completely normal. However, there are missteps that are better to avoid from the start. Attention to detail and persistence will help you significantly accelerate your progress and become a professional faster.
To make your journey to mastery easier, we’ve compiled a list of the most common mistakes to avoid when applying eyelash extensions.

By knowing in advance about potential nuances, you’ll be able to avoid many difficulties even before working with clients. This will not only simplify your task but also increase customer satisfaction, making your service more professional.
So, here are the mistakes to avoid:

1. Do not apply eyelashes directly on the eyelid

Eyelash extensions are attached approximately 1 mm from the root of the natural lashes. They should not be placed too close to the eyelid or directly on the skin, as this can cause irritation or even inflammation of the eyes. To avoid such consequences, it is important to maintain the correct distance during the extension process.
The only exception is cluster lashes. They are attached directly to the eyelid, but unlike extensions, they are fixed with a special adhesive that dissolves easily when removing makeup.

2. Do not reuse tools without disinfecting them

Failure to adhere to hygiene standards can lead to serious consequences and significantly affect your reputation as an eyelash extension specialist. Each client should be given a brush for combing their lashes as a gift at the end of the session.
As for tweezers and other tools you regularly use in your practice, it is important to thoroughly sterilize them after each use. Store tools in safe and cool conditions, and always use an ultraviolet sterilizer or dry heat sterilizer when necessary to ensure maximum safety and compliance with hygiene standards.

3. Do not attach one lash to multiple natural lashes

Proper isolation of lashes during the application process is key to achieving a neat and long-lasting lash extension. If this is not done or if too much glue is used, natural and extended lashes can stick together, creating an unaesthetic effect.
Remember, the "strand by strand" technique involves attaching only one extension to each natural lash. Pay close attention during the application process and practice on a mannequin first before working with clients.
If we're talking about Hollywood volume extensions, where 4 to 15 extensions are attached to one natural lash, much more precision and experience are required. Do not attempt this technique until you have mastered the method of creating and curling lash fans.

4. Do not make lashes too long or thick

Before starting eyelash extensions, it is important to analyze the condition of the client's natural lashes. Too long or thick lashes can cause discomfort, irritation, and even affect the natural growth cycle of the lashes. Incorrectly chosen extensions not only worsen the appearance but can also damage natural lashes. To avoid this, it is essential to discuss the client's wishes from the beginning and offer the best option that enhances the beauty of the eyes without causing harm. Dialogue and a professional approach will help achieve the perfect result while preserving the health and comfort of the lashes.

5. Do not use glue if its color or consistency has changed

How you store eyelash extension glue directly affects its shelf life and the quality of your work. To preserve its properties, it is recommended to use a special set of storage containers that protect the product from light and moisture. Additionally, you can use a hygrometer with a thermometer to determine the ideal storage location.

Important: If the glue has changed color or consistency since its last use, do not use it! This can cause irritation to the client and lead to poor lash fixation. As a result, the extensions will not stay on for long, which will negatively affect your reputation. Proper care of tools is the key to successful work!

Follow our recommendations and avoid the mistakes mentioned above. Always prioritize hygiene, safety, and comfort — this is the key to customer satisfaction. Over time, you will notice positive changes and their trust.
